Its good to be back in running shape after a very disappointing week. I did not expect that a whole week of recovery would be needed after coming down with whatever virus is making the rounds this year but until yesterday I couldn't run for more than ten minutes. I tried to resume my schedule on Friday night but it felt wrong from the beginning. I was in stitches (not the funny kind) almost from the get go and my concentration was on how cold my fingers were because I forgot my gloves rather than on completing the task ahead of me. It was very disappointing to stop not even half way into my run. This was the first time that this has happened to me and I was afraid that I would lose the momentum I had built up over the past five weeks.
Thats why yesterday's run was so much better than normal. I decided to change my route on the fly and that helped me gain a fresh perspective after a whole week away. I decided on a more scenic rout along Mountain Brow Blvd overlooking downtown Hamilton. Thanks to a recent download I can calculate the length of my route to measure my distance more accurately along with time spent pounding the pavement. My priority still is to build up endurance and distance before worrying too much about pace and my watch along with my routeDigitizer allows me to keep each in perspective. According to the software Sunday's run was 4.085 kilometers long and my watch says I spent 35 minutes to run that distance. I already feel better about my chances at completing the 5 K in March as long as i contiune to train and stay healthy.
